The idea was born from the rosewood tree, also known as Dalbergia sissoo, which historically was the main species of rosewood in northern India. Another type of rosewood, the «palisander», reminiscent of intricate carvings and serene Asian groves, provided the inspiration. «I can’t create fragrances that are too figurative,» explains the perfumer. Abstract yet intensely evocative, Palissandre d’Or Eau de Parfum 100 ml expresses the quintessence of the style of Alberto Morillas, defined by the maestro in three words: «Fluidity, transparency and power.» In this dazzling olfactory inlay, crystalline ambrette, a natural musk with facets of rose, pear and iris, illuminates rich inlays of fresh spices such as pink pepper, coriander and nutmeg. When the intense heat of cinnamon rises, the perfume opens its heart to reveal its secret: a rare extract of sandalwood from Sri Lanka. Subtly smoky, pink and creamy, it is made even more luxurious by the milky warmth of copahu balm and a silky extract of patchouli. The scent of ambrox, an intriguing fusion of warm, clean bark and sun-kissed leather, spreads its delicate motifs wherever it is sprayed. Additionally, a bold trio of cedar essences adds structure and texture to this luminous blend. Virginian cedar, clean and vigorous, lends vigor and rhythm. The Lapsang Souchong tea facet of Chinese cedar adds subtlety, and Alaskan cedar adds a Russian leathery smokiness. “It’s a ‘monochrome’ in color and density, with a strong signature and very special, bold ingredients,” says Morillas. “But it’s still very wearable and full of facets that can resonate differently on different skins.” Serene and mystical, Palissandre d’Or is a journey into the quintessence of wood.
